Learn to Swim with Reading Swimming Club

We welcome anyone interested in learning to swim or wanting to improve their strokes from the age of 4 up to adult. Our swimming teachers are well qualified and enthusiastic, with a genuine interest for the sport of swimming.

The club is very proud to be SwimMark accredited. This provides evidence that the club and its programs and policies has been scrutinised, and found to be current and up-to-date with all the required regulations and that it will continue to improve.

All our swimmers wear swimming hats, for safety and hygiene reasons. Swimmers will need to order there swimming hat on your Swim Manager account under the tab shop. Red-Stages 1-3, White - Stages 4-6 and Black Stages 7 upwards including Academy, swimfit and Adults.  Our swimming teachers will then be given the hat to give you.

Classic Silicone Hat is for please with short hair and the Moulded Silicone Hat is for long hair.

We run the Teaching Programme from four different venues:

  • Highdown School, Emmer Green (Tuesday evening) Stage 3 and above
  • Sonning Common Primary School (Friday evening) Stage 1-2 only
  • Kendrick Girls' School (Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday morning) Stages 1-10 and Adult Lessons
  • St Andrew's School, Pangbourne (Wednesday evening) Stages 1-10 and Adult Improver
  • New Venue from 8th June - The Abbey School, Reading (Saturday Afternoon's) All Stages

Our programme of lessons are structured to encourage progression from each stage to the next as the swimmer improves. Lessons run during term time only and are payable monthly by direct debt (monthly invoice will be sent out, payment will be around the 16th of the month).

Stages 1 - 6 lessons run for 30 minutes, Stages 7 - 9 run for 45 minutes and Academy sessions (Stage 10) run for 45 - 60 minutes. Swimfit 60 minutes and Adult lessons are 45 minutes.

From Stage 7 (coaches recommendation only), if your swimmer would like to take part in swimming competitions we encourage swimmers to move into our training section - starting with the Dev 4 Squad which is 2 sessions a week. Please see our 'Join Us' button on the home page or the 'Squad' tab for more details.

We do not permit parents onto poolside during their lessons as we feel this distracts and disrupts the childrens learning. For some medical conditions parents are allowed to stay.
