The Welsh youth championships have kept Reading's Holly Tanner away from the Easter Open for the last three years, but having passed beyond the age limit for the Swansea meet the Abbey sixth-former made a strong return with four wins in four events and the overall trophy for top girl across the weekend.

The first of these was the 400 IM which kicked off Saturday's programme. The only realistic challenger across all the age groups looked to be Carolyn Astbury of Hertfordshire's Dacorum, but with both girls four seconds outside their entry time Tanner had a comfortable margin while Astbury took the 15s' gold and overall silver. Rachael Mills, making light of 2,350 metres of racing the day before, won her year and was third overall in a 5.20.

The boys began the day with the 100 butterfly and Reading's Adam Barrett qualified for the grand final second behind Tunbridge Wells's Clarke, but turned the tables and was the only swimmer under a minute, recording 58.96 to the silver medallist's 1.00.11.

The girls' 200 free saw some of the biggest fields of the meet and Rachael Mills and Emma Harris again winning their age categories by big margins and going on to top the rostrum.

Mills qualified third behind Black Lion's Sara Parfett but reversed this in the final, where Harris recorded 2.08.30 and Mills 2.09.63.

Reading boys topped four of the seven age categories in 200 IM, in the shape of Alex Cawthorne by a typically huge margin, Callum Willcox, Chris Boyce and York Kloeppel.

Backstroke specialist Daniel Davies from Bristol's Soundwell turned the tables and swam the final nine seconds quicker than his heat to push fastest qualifier Kloeppel into a silver, while second qualifier Tom Foley of Black Lion false-started.

The girls' 100 back highlight was a second gold for Tanner in a career-best 1.06.27, which she needed to beat clubmate Naomi Herring's 1.07.43.

Eleanor Cawthorne qualified fastest for her year's final but despite an improved time was narrowly beaten by Annie Byrne of Tunbridge Wells. Cawthorne was to more than make up for this in Sunday's 200. Natalia Ciecierska-Holmes was fifth in Cawthorne's 100 final.

Barnaby Kempster built on Friday's 800 with an 11-second PB to win his year's 400 free and Reading men's captain Garry Dixon swam 0.01 faster than his entry time to top the field by almost six seconds in a national-qualifying 4.00.95.

After Nicole Ryan and Olivia Paige collected bronze in their 100 fly finals, Rachael Mills and Farnham's Vachon swam yet another close race, Mills prevailing by 1.08.67 to 1.09.22. (Over)

A disappointing entry in the 100 breast meant nearly everyone outside the 12s age group was guaranteed a final. Kloeppel improved a huge winning 1.09.98 to 1.08.18 and the open gold, with Chris Boyce age group winner and fourth overall.

Adam Barrett closed his highly satisfactory day by qualifying for the final of the 200 fly two seconds outside the national qualifying mark, and swimming the final four seconds quicker in 2.10.70 - a margin of more than half a length over silver medallist Alfie Cruttwell from London club Leander.
