Teaching Programme Overview

We welcome anyone interested in learning to swim or wanting to improve their strokes from the age of 4 up to adult. Our swimming teachers are well qualified and enthusiastic, with a genuine interest for the sport of swimming.

The club is very proud to be Swim21 accredited. This provides evidence that the club and its programs and policies has been scrutinised, and found to be current and up-to-date with all the required regulations and that it will continue to improve.

All our swimmers wear colour-coded swimming hats, for safety and hygiene reasons. This also denotes the level of ability of the swimmer within our award scheme, and to be recognised as part of Reading Swimming Club.  We supply every swimmer with a new hat when they start each level.

Our teaching programme is well structured to encourage progression to each level.  At the top of the teaching programme your child will be an efficient and competent swimmer. From here we encourage the swimmers to join the Reading Swimming Club training squads.

We run the programme from four different venues:

  • Highdown School, Emmer Green (Tuesday evening) (Red hats levels 3 and above)
  • Central Pool (Thursday evening)
  • Sonning Common Primary School (Friday evening) (Red hats levels 1-3 only)
  • Kendrick Girls' School (Saturday morning)

Our programme of lessons are structured to encourage progression from each level to the next as the swimmer improves.

Courses run from 10-14 weeks and are paid in advance. Each session currently costs £4.75 (although if you have 3 or more children in the programme, the third child and subsequent pays a third of the price).

A lesson will run for half-hour, except White hats, which are 45 minutes, and adults, where lessons are usually 45 minutes on a Thursday; please contact us about timing, etc.

At the top end of our teaching programme - the White Hats - we encourage swimmers who are interested to move into our training section - starting with the Development 2 Squad.

If interested, contact the club and arrange for a trial. You can call 0118 959 6701, or alternatively you can e-mail info@readingswimclub.org.

We look forward to hearing from you!

HAPPY SWIMMING!
