Glasgow 2005 Masters Meet

The Evening Post-sponsored Reading SC Masters squad, coached by Gordon Carmichael, had a particularly successful weekend at the British championships at Scotland's top venue, Tollcross Park in Glasgow, with a large number of excellent swims and a big medal haul. Everyone who went to Glasgow won at least one medal in the various age groups – Masters swimming is structured along the lines of youth swimming in age groups from 19-24 upwards, but with times naturally becoming progressively less demanding - and the medallists were:

Gold Medals (11 in total)

• Nigel Salsbury – 50, 100 and 200 backstroke, 800 free
• Rhiannon Guy – 400 and 800 free
• Carole Eyles – 200 breaststroke
• David Stannard – 800 free
• Mixed medley and free relays (Carol Eyles, Lucy Roper, Tim Neal, Karl Buchholtz)
• Men's free relay (Karl Buchholtz, David Stannard, Lucy Roper, Iain Gerrard)

Silver Medals (3)

• Rhiannon Guy – 200 free
• Iain Gerrard – 200 free
• David Stannard – 200 free

Bronze Medals (10)

• Carol Eyles – 100 breaststroke
• Iain Gerrard – 100 and 200 fly
• Karl Buchholtz – 100 free
• Nigel Salsbury – 200 and 400 free
• David Stannard – 400 free
• Mark Barlow – 50 backstroke and 200 free
